What is in the build
The keyboard, not a scratchpad
A real input method that replaces your keyboard everywhere. Messages, mail, browser, whatever you already type in. Nothing to copy and paste.
Hold the mic and talk
Dictation in over 100 languages, cleaned up as it lands. Punctuation, capitalization, and the ums taken out before the text reaches the field.
Swipe typing
Drag across the letters without lifting your finger. The same decoder the iPhone build uses, ported rather than rebuilt.
24 keyboard languages
Tap and swipe boards with their own layouts, autocorrect, and long-press accents. QWERTY, AZERTY, QWERTZ and Dvorak arrangements for the Latin boards.
Tones and Notes
Rewrite a rough voice note into something you can send. Ramble into the Notes tab and get structured text back.
Themes, sounds, and the voice bubble
Keyboard themes, key sounds, haptics, and a floating bubble that takes dictation without switching apps.
What is still rough
This is a beta, which means a working keyboard with unfinished corners rather than a preview of one. Every item below is already known. Reporting them again is not a problem, but this is what you should expect to hit.
Dictation needs a connection
Transcription runs in the cloud in this build. There is no offline model on Android yet, so dictation will fail on a dead connection instead of degrading gracefully.
Barely any devices tested
Android is a very wide platform and this build has been on a handful of phones. Manufacturer keyboard skins, gesture navigation, and split-screen are the likely places it falls over.
Battery and memory are untuned
Nothing has been profiled yet. If the keyboard feels heavy or the app eats battery overnight, that is a real report and worth sending.
Rough edges in the app shell
Some screens are unfinished, some copy is placeholder, and not every string is translated. Cosmetic reports are welcome but bugs that block you matter more.
How to join
Opt in with the right Google account
Open the join link on your phone and tap Become a tester. It has to be the Google account signed into your Play Store, not just the one that reads your mail.
Install from Google Play
The opt-in page hands you a Play Store link once you are in. The first install can take a few minutes to appear while access propagates.
Turn the keyboard on
Installing an input method does not enable it. Open the app and finish setup, or do it by hand under Settings, System, Languages and input, On-screen keyboard.
Testers stay on the build for a couple of weeks so it gets used in real conditions rather than poked at once. If something about it drives you up the wall, tell us rather than uninstalling. That is the entire point of a closed beta.
